What is Biodiversity?
Biodiversity means ‘the variety of living things’. It is the wealth of wild plants and animals around us together with the habitats that support them.
The Importance of Biodiversity

- Key Indicator of sustainable development
- Essential to maintain quality of life providing us with food, water, oxygen, clothing, reduce pollution and improve our health and well being
- Many environmental, social and economic benefits
The Council is committed to the protection and enhancement of biodiversity within Blaenau Gwent. This is achieved through the implementation of the Local Biodiversity Action Plan for Blaenau Gwent in partnership with wide range of organisations and individuals.
Safeguarding Blaenau Gwent’s Biodiversity is not just the responsibility of the Council or environmental groups; it needs commitment from all of us!
